Did Xiaxue Indirectly Cause George Yeo to lose election?

Congrats to the Worker's Party for their good results at the Singapore General Election 2011. To be objective, there were losses and gains on both sides this time round.

Too bad I cant have a say this time because I am under Tanjong Pagar GRC...

Singapore's famous blogger Xiaxue has been very vocal about her support for George Yeo, part of the People's Action Party(PAP).

On the contrary, we have seen a rise in pro-opposition voters in this election, especially among the internet savvy young voters. I have seen internet forum posters(EDMW) switching sides to support blogging rival Dawn Yang just because Xiaxue was pro-PAP and Dawn Yang was more pro-opposition.

You see, politics are a touchy subject. It has the power to make people either really go against you or support you.

Xiaxue's support for George Yeo and the PAP party has no doubt increased the amount of people that don't agree with her.

I applaud Xiaxue for being brave enough to pledge her loyalty to PAP despite the increasing pressure not to, due to certain shortcomings of the PAP government.

But she is a blogger that depends on an internet audience. And as you know, most of the internet is pro- opposition. Should Xiaxue risk losing online audience due to differing political views? Did her vocal support for George Yeo work against George Yeo?

While most products that Xiaxue endorses do well, we can't assure that the political parties Xiaxue endorses will follow suit. Political parties are slightly different from consumer products and needs a different way of convincing people without pissing them off.

Unless Xiaxue's influence level is on the level of Oprah Winfrey's amongst young people. Oprah's audience are okay with her taking sides on political issues. But will Xiaxue's audience feel the same? Do they look upon her as a role model or just a celebrity. That I don't know.

Don't worry. Xiaxue will always have her online traffic. She has been branching out into youtube as well, and that will push her into the worldwide internet scene. She is a successful brand in new media> But if I were in her shoes, I would take the path of politics more carefully.

Happy with Sezairi Sezali as Singapore Idol?

Was on twitter after the Singapore Idol results show came out. Sezairi was twitter's trending topic!

Like many, I was rooting for Sylvia to win.

But we gotta respect our voters decision ...

I prefer Sylvia because Hady and Taufik already possess the same musical style as Sezairi.

Looking back, Taufik deserved his crown. Let's face it, Sylvester Sim wasn't really that great. Remember that weird spastic twitching, winking and pointing? Olinda was a good singer but she doesnt have the image of the star. Taufik was one of the best we got during Season 1.

Jonathan Leong and Hady were both good singers. But Hady just has a little bit more charisma. Jonathan has the 'cool' thing going on, but I guess Hady's affable image appeals more to the masses.

But this season, we got boy-next-door Sezairi against cutie Sylvia Ratonel. Sezairi is a competent singer but whatever he can do, Hady and Taufik can or are already doing it. There is nothing new musically aout Sezairi.

But I heard Sezairi is a musician and write his own songs. Well, maybe my perception of him will change once he releases a few awesome original compositions into the airwaves.

Sylvia on the other hand, can give Singapore what we lack, a versatile female singer who happens to be sweet looking as well.

Alas, who won singapore idol isn't important. What's important is the future careers of both of them.

I see Sezairi following the footsteps of Hady and Taufik, performing regionally in Malaysia and Indonesia. Sylvia will have a market there too since she can sing in Malay.

Phillipines is also a good place for Sylvia to expand into.

I don't see any of the two finalists going International, unless Sylvia can get as lucky as Charice.

The Singapore Idols came to my school for promo last Monday.

Tabitha Nauser, Faizal Isa, Sylvia Ratonel, Sezairi Sezali were all on stage. Then I spotted a really short human being I couldn't really recognise standing amongst the four idols.

It took me a while before I realised "Ohhh! That short guy is Charles? Haha! Gawd."

Din include a picture but Charles "Stitch" Wong is actually really short! I'm guessing 165 or something. Hmmm...quite surprising cos he doesn't look all that short on TV.

But he's a pretty good looker though. *Jealous*

I'm Hi-card seller for singtel and was sent to this shop in Little India yesterday. Wow, Bangalas DO make us rich.

I missed the National Day Parade '09 and Singapore Idol because I was working from 3pm to 11pm.

That's like $13.50 per hour?

Pretty decent for student. Hahahahahahaha, as the hi card shop store boss was saying; "Eh, NDP my ass, I too busy counting money!"

That applies to HIM. I helped him do closing sales accounting and found out that the shop I mended PROFITED over $1000 on Hi-card sales alone!

Am so glad that I will soon be done with my part time stint @ the 2-month SingTel Hi Card Roadshow.

The job is so boring I would rather watch flies fuck.

But it pays well for student and has weekly cash pay so I don't really mind.

Part time jobs are the best time to act like a prick because you don't need the job.

Just yesterday, while serving a customer, the customer next in line (cut queue?) placed his phone on the table and demanded that he be served quick.

This dirty, upkempt, disgusting shithole of a man bellowed "HELLO! FASTER!" and pointed to the phone he placed on the table.

Can't this fucking retard see that I'm serving the customer before him?

Enraged, I shouted back: " EH! I'm serving him first! YOU WANT FASTER, GO HOME! Don't have to take your free gift (free Hi-card)."

That fucker was stunned and mumbled something like how could I talk to him like that. Haha! such a spectacle, so many people watching.

Like I care. He won't be not getting what he wanted. I purposely made him wait even longer. And it was already 8.05 pm. I close shop at 8pm.

Should have closed my booth when it's his turn.

Yay!!! This blog is 7 months old and has finally accumulated $53 by last month. But I forgot to check my account so I didn't cash out the earnings and will have to wait a while.

Lols, it's funny how small ass bloggers like myself refer to the tens of dollars they earn from their blogs as 'earnings'.

The 'Earnings'
$40 of the $53 are from the CPM campaigns. CPM means the site is paid by the number of impressions rather than by the number of clicks on the advertisements.

I'm a bit resentful that the CPM campaign wasn't during the S-Factor period, where blog traffic was the highest; 1000 uniques/day. The daily hits for now is only around 300plus a day.

Keeping in mind that the cheque is about to arrive at my mailbox, I now have the mood to blog :D

There's an upcoming school Journalistic Writing project where I have to do up a website and cover events and write articles on them. As practise, I'll try to write things on here in a more professional way. Ha, almost got A for the previous test. Only 2 people in the entire course got A. I would have been the 3rd one if only I got just a few marks more.

It was rumoured that Mas Selamat was apprehended while eating KFC at a shopping centre in Johor Bahru.

This is how the hearsay goes:

The Johor Police have been tracking Mas Selamat for over a year when it finally came to the day they located Mas, who had on numerous occasions, managed to slip away uncaught.

On a tip off, the plain clothes policemen arrived at the restaurant and closed in on Mas, who was at that time, enjoying his Chicky Meal.

After the controversial hijack 2 months ago by the Church of Our Saviour(COOS) , the Old AWARE is back in power once again, "almost six hours after the extraordinary general meeting at Suntec City started."

During the meeting, the members were each updating their twitters and blogs about the progress.

Press cameras were not allowed in but a Channelnewasia reporter managed to sneak in.

"Only ordinary members are allowed to vote. AWARE has 3,000 members, up from some 300 members a month ago.

The vote of no confidence was passed against the new AWARE, Exco with 1414 votes to 761 votes."

Later, the motion to remove the new Exco from office was passed, and the motion to elect a new president was also passed.

Ms Josie Lau and her exco have stepped down.

Former president Dana Lam was elected as the new President."

"One Malay Muslim woman said she was not comfortable with an-all Christian and all-Chinese group representing a secular group like AWARE. And members of the Christian faith stood up and said the action of the new Exco set back constructive dialogue between Christians and secularists in Singapore.

Over 90 per cent of the people who spoke up said they were against the encroachment of religious values on a secular space."
