And females who pretend to know about football only do so because the guys are interested in it. If no guys show interest in something, these females would also not show any interest in it.

Just look at the F1 season, most of the females didn't even know who was who. As long as the crowd showed interest in a particular driver, these women would also act like they know everything about him.
